Celebrating Black Love

February is the month for love but, for many people, there is no Valentine to celebrate. That’s especially true in the black community. Every year there seems to be another study highlighting the dismal chances for black women to ever marry. And statistics show that only 30-percent of African-American children grow up in a home with a mother and a father. That’s only two out of three kids.

So this month on In The Know with Anthony Reeves, we’re going to celebrate black love and talk about Black Marriage Day! We’ll hear encouraging stories of people who are making it work and talk about why it’s so important that we make it work especially in the black community.

Please join us for the show on Wednesday, February 2 at 8:00 pm. Just log onto http://www.blogtalkradio.com/intheknow to listen live and call in with your questions and comments.

Fully understanding the FORCE of FASHION

From branding, endorsement, design, intellectual property, marketing, etc., I don’t think the average person really understands how ‘fashion’ is such an integral part of society’s  culture.  Well, get ready to be enlightened and informed.

Kerry Bannigan began her career ten years ago in Public Relations and Marketing while completing her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Communications at Sheffield Hallam University.  With a background in marketing, events and brand management, Kerry envisioned a revolutionary advance of resources in the emerging/independent fashion industry.  After teaming up with her business partner Arthur Mandel, they launched Nolcha in September 2006.

To continually grow the Nolcha brand on a global platform Ms. Bannigan is responsible for event and digital media partnerships including Lucky Magazine, Vogue Bambini and Yelp. She handles the integration of trade content and brands to consumer internet and retail/ecommerce including Macy’s, Mandee, StyleQuest and Ask.co.uk.

Kerry is on the Board of New York Entrepreneur Week as well as being instrumental in facilitating this week long event working with esteemed professionals such as Gary Whitehill, David Rose, Peter Shankman and Sergio Fernández de Córdova and as well as managing media placement including Fox News, NBC and New York 1.

Kerry is regularly featured in the media discussing the independent fashion market including NBC, CBS, BBC, Smart Money TV and Wall Street Journal. How To Survive (and perhaps thrive) On A Teacher’s Salary

I have written the book "How To Survive (and perhaps thrive) On A Teacher's
Salary." I've been a teacher for almost ten years and am proud to say that
passion for the craft keeps me in the classroom but smart savings and basic
understanding of financial principles have kept my wife (willingly!) at home
with our children. Many find it hard to believe that one teacher can support
a family of four, but "How to Survive" explains the steps necessary for
others to follow suit and save for life's journeys.

Stop waiting for the government and school board to fix your child’s school

Conversation with community activist, Jacqueline Edelberg.

How to Walk to School: Blueprint for a Neighborhood School Renaissance _(Foreword by Arne Duncan and Afterword by Rahm Emanuel), has a very simple message: Every kid, in every community, deserves a great neighborhood public school. I led eight moms in a Chicago diner to make our dreams come true.

If eight park moms could pull our little neighborhood school out of its twenty-five year nose-dive, surely other driven parents could do the same thing. If we could spark a national grassroots school reform movement that would pull us all out of the giant mess we’re in, now wouldn’t that be something?

JACQUELINE EDELBERG has been the driving force behind the Nettelhorst School’s dramatic turn around, a story that has been featured on Oprah and Friends, NPR, CNN, 60 Minutes, Education Weekly, and in the local Chicago media. A community organizer, writer, and nationally recognized fine artist, Jacqueline has led workshops for the Community Schools Initiative, Northside Parents Network, and Chicago Public Schools on how public schools and reformers can improve public education. Before devoting herself to art, community organizing, and cutting the crusts off bread, Jacqueline taught political science at the university of Osnabrueck in Germany on a Fulbright.

The discussion and dialogue will be aired on April 28, 2010 from 8:00pm to 9:00pm EDT on http://www.blogtalkradio.com/intheknow .
